HARWICH Museum will be holding special talks as part of the 85th anniversary of the district’s school children evacuation during the Second World War.
Some 1,200 children were evacuated from Harwich, Dovercourt and Parkeston on June 2, 1940, to keep them safe from the imminent danger of living so close to a major port during the war.
On June 2, Harwich Museum staged a commemoration at Harwich Town Station.
Harwich Museum are now providing talks to allow the public to learn more about this “momentous event in the history of the borough”.
The first talk on August 3 sold out within six days meaning a second talk has been announced for September 7 at Harwich Museum from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
To book a seat either call into the museum between Wednesday and Sundays or online at groupbookings@harwichmuseum.co.uk.
The cost will be £4 per seat which will go towards the publication of a book of the same name, which will then be sold in aid of the museum.
