Harwich Museum

2025 Season

Welcome to the new 2025 season at the Harwich Museum.

Firstly, our headline news – Although the museum has been closed to the public for the winter break the volunteers have worked really hard and have been busy installing new displays to two of our galleries as well as carrying out essential work.

The ‘cinema’ room has been refreshed with new boards on the Cinemas, Cliff Pavilion, Warner’s Holiday Camp and Hi-de-Hi! along with smart new seating. In the adjoining gallery we have built two fantastic new displays, one celebrating Harwich Borough Council and renowned Mayors with the other commemorating Kindertransport – with a few other tweaks along the way.

The museum opens on Wednesday 26th February and opening days this year will be Wednesday to Sunday (shut Monday & Tuesday) each week. The opening time each day will be 10.00 am until 4.00pm with last entry to museum and last Lighthouse Tea Bar orders at 3.00pm.

The next monthly quiz night takes place on Thursday 13th March at 7.30pm (doors open at 7.00pm) at the United Services Club. Please do come along and join us, it’s very light hearted but also a chance to put your knowledge to the test. Just £2 per person and you can have up to 6 in a team. You may also win a raffle prize.

We are busy putting together a full programme of presentations for the year but to start with for next month:

On Friday 21st March at 11.00am we have a presentation on ‘The Loss of GER Berlin’ by David Whittle.

Whilst on Wednesday 26th March David Whittle will be presenting a talk on ‘Kindertransport’.

*The Events page on the website and social media are regularly updated so please check for details.

Tickets for all talks can be booked by emailing groupbookings@harwichmuseum.co.uk

All talks generally last a hour with time for questions. For all talks please remember to pay in advance (includes entry to the museum) or if a season ticket holder book your place and bring your season ticket to show at reception on the day. If you cannot attend please let us know in good time as we may be able to reallocate your place to someone else.

Just a reminder that we do have a tea bar and shop, entry is not required to the museum to use these. Outside seating is also available.

Lastly, we are a not for profit organisation ‘staffed’ by an incredible group of volunteers with no paid personnel, however, like numerous museums, we continue to face significant financial challenges in respect of running costs and funding continual improvements. So, we have had to make the difficult decision and reluctantly raise our admission prices but we hope you agree that they still represent exceptional value for money. New 2025 prices:

Day entry – £4.00

Season ticket – £15.00 (unlimited entry and access to most presentations for 12 months)

(Renewals can be purchased from Wednesday 26th February onwards.)

Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you soon.
